Store Profile

Your store profile is how customers discover and connect with your bookstore on BookWish. This guide covers all customization options.

Accessing Store Settings

To manage your store profile:

  1. Open the BookWish app
  2. Navigate to the Shop tab
  3. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the top-right
  4. This opens the Store Settings page

Basic Information

Store Name

Your official bookstore name that appears throughout BookWish.

Best Practices:

  • Use your legal or well-known business name
  • Keep it clear and memorable
  • Avoid special characters if possible
  • Example: "Powell's Books" not "Powell's Books!!!"

Updating Your Name:

  1. Tap on the name field
  2. Enter the new name
  3. Tap Save Changes

Changing your store name will update your store URL (slug). Old links may not work.

Store Description

Tell customers about your bookstore.

What to Include:

  • Your store's unique features
  • Specializations (e.g., "rare books," "local authors")
  • Store history or story
  • What makes you different

Example:

Portland's oldest independent bookstore, specializing in
rare finds and Pacific Northwest authors since 1985.
Browse our curated collection of new releases, signed
editions, and hard-to-find titles.

Tips:

  • Keep it under 200 words
  • Be authentic and personal
  • Highlight what makes you special
  • Update seasonally if needed

Contact Information

Phone Number

Primary phone number for customer inquiries.

Format: Any format works, but we recommend:

  • (555) 123-4567
  • 555-123-4567

When to Provide:

  • Customer service questions
  • Order status inquiries
  • General bookstore questions

Email Address

Email address for customer contact.

Best Practices:

  • Use a dedicated store email
  • Not your personal email
  • Example: store@yourbookstore.com
  • Monitor regularly for customer questions

Location Information

Physical Address

Your store's physical location where customers can visit.

Components:

  • Street Address - Primary address (e.g., "123 Main Street")
  • Suite/Unit - Optional additional address info
  • City - City name
  • State - State or province abbreviation
  • ZIP Code - Postal code
  • Country - Defaults to US

Why It Matters:

  • Helps customers find your physical location
  • Enables distance-based search for nearby customers
  • Shows on your store website
  • Used for shipping calculations

Privacy Note: Your address is visible to all BookWish users. If you prefer not to show your exact location, consider using a general area description in your store description.

Business Hours

Set your regular operating hours so customers know when you're open.

Quick Set Options

The Store Setup wizard and Settings page offer quick hour templates:

"9-5 Weekdays"

  • Monday - Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Saturday - Sunday: Closed

"10-6 All Week"

  • All days: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

"Clear All"

  • Removes all hours

Custom Hours

Set unique hours for each day:

Format: Free-form text

  • "9:00 AM - 5:00 PM"
  • "10:00 AM - 6:00 PM"
  • "Closed"
  • "By Appointment"

Examples:

Monday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Late Night)
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Friday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Sunday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Special Hours:

  • Add notes in parentheses for special circumstances
  • Example: "Closed (Holiday)" or "10:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Summer Hours)"
  • Update regularly for seasonal changes

Holiday Hours

Remember to update your hours for:

  • Major holidays
  • Seasonal changes
  • Special events
  • Temporary closures

Visual Branding

Your logo appears on your store profile, website, and in search results.

Specifications:

  • Format: PNG or JPG
  • Recommended Size: 512x512 pixels
  • Aspect Ratio: Square (1:1)
  • Background: Transparent PNG works best
  • File Size: Under 2 MB

Uploading Your Logo:

  1. Go to Store Settings
  2. Tap Logo section
  3. Tap Upload Logo
  4. Select image from your device
  5. Crop if needed
  6. Tap Save

Tips:

  • Use high-resolution images
  • Keep it simple and recognizable
  • Ensure it works on light and dark backgrounds
  • Test how it looks at small sizes

Store Banner

A banner image appears at the top of your store profile and website.

Specifications:

  • Format: PNG or JPG
  • Recommended Size: 1200x400 pixels
  • Aspect Ratio: 3:1 (landscape)
  • File Size: Under 5 MB

What Works Well:

  • Photo of your bookstore exterior or interior
  • Shelves of books
  • Cozy reading spaces
  • Your store's unique character

Uploading Your Banner:

  1. Go to Store Settings
  2. Tap Banner section
  3. Tap Upload Banner
  4. Select image from your device
  5. Adjust positioning if needed
  6. Tap Save

Tips:

  • Use high-quality, well-lit photos
  • Avoid text overlays (they may not be readable)
  • Choose images that represent your store's atmosphere
  • Consider seasonal updates

Primary Color

Choose a brand color that represents your store.

How It's Used:

  • Store website accent color
  • Buttons and links
  • Brand consistency across BookWish

Choosing Your Color:

  1. Go to Store Settings
  2. Tap Color section
  3. Use the color picker or enter a hex code
  4. Preview how it looks
  5. Tap Save

Tips:

  • Match your existing brand colors
  • Ensure good contrast with white/black text
  • Test readability before committing
  • Consider your logo colors

Connect your social media profiles to your store.

Supported Platforms:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • Twitter/X
  • Website (custom URL)

Adding Links:

  1. Go to Store Settings
  2. Tap Social Links section
  3. Enter URLs for each platform
  4. Tap Save

Examples:

  • Instagram: https://instagram.com/yourbookstore
  • Facebook: https://facebook.com/yourbookstore
  • Website: https://yourbookstore.com

  • Customers can follow you on their preferred platform
  • Drive traffic to your other channels

Store Status

Active/Inactive Status

Control whether your store is visible to customers.

Active Store:

  • Visible in search results
  • Customers can browse inventory
  • Can accept orders
  • Website is live

Inactive Store:

  • Not visible to customers
  • Inventory not searchable
  • Cannot accept orders
  • Useful for temporary closures

To Change Status:

  1. Go to Store Settings
  2. Toggle Store Active switch
  3. Confirm your choice

Setting your store to inactive prevents customers from placing orders. Use this for extended closures only.

Updating Your Profile

Best Practices

  • Keep information current - Update hours, contact info regularly
  • Complete all sections - Customers prefer stores with full profiles
  • Add visual elements - Logo and banner increase trust
  • Monitor contact channels - Respond promptly to customer inquiries
  • Seasonal updates - Refresh description and hours seasonally

How Changes Appear

  • Profile changes are immediate
  • No approval process required
  • Customers see updates right away
  • Store website updates automatically

Store URL (Slug)

Your store has a unique URL based on your store name.

Format: bookwish.app/stores/your-store-name

How It's Generated:

  • Automatically created from your store name
  • Lowercase
  • Spaces replaced with hyphens
  • Special characters removed
  • Example: "Powell's Books" → powells-books

Updating: Your URL slug updates automatically when you change your store name.
