Feed Algorithm

Your feed is primarily chronological with some smart sorting:

All feed:

  • Recent posts first
  • Popular posts surface higher
  • Diverse content (mix of Lines and Reviews)

Following feed:

  • Purely chronological from people you follow
  • No algorithmic sorting

Local feed:

  • Posts from your area, recent first
  • Store posts appear alongside user posts

Best Practices

Curate your Following: The Following filter becomes more valuable as you follow users whose taste matches yours.

Try all filters: Different filters are useful at different times:

  • "All" for discovery
  • "Following" for personalized content
  • "Reviews" for purchase decisions
  • "Local" for community connection

Engage authentically: Like and reply to posts that genuinely interest you to build connections.

Scroll mindfully: It's easy to endlessly scroll - set time limits if needed.

Report responsibly: Only report genuine violations, not opinions you disagree with.

Notifications

You'll receive notifications for:

  • New posts from users you follow
  • Replies to your Lines
  • Likes on your content
  • Book club posts

Manage notification settings in Settings → Notifications.

Feed Performance

Loading Issues

If your feed won't load:

  1. Pull down to refresh
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Try switching filters
  4. Force-close and reopen the app

Slow Loading

  • The feed loads 20 posts at a time
  • Scroll to load more (automatic pagination)
  • Older posts are cached locally for faster access

Privacy Considerations

Remember that the Share feed is public:

  • All Lines and Reviews are visible to all users
  • Your likes are public
  • Your replies are public
  • Only Scribbles (private notes) are hidden

Adjust what you share accordingly. See Privacy Settings for more control.

Feed Tips

Morning routine: Check your Following feed with coffee to see what your reading community shared overnight.

Discovery time: Browse the All feed when you're looking for new books or voices.

Local connection: Use the Local feed before visiting your bookstore to see what neighbors are reading.

Research mode: Use the Reviews filter when deciding whether to buy a specific book.

Club engagement: Filter to Challenges to stay active in your reading challenges.

Creating a Great Feed Experience

The quality of your feed depends on who you follow. Take time to follow 15-20 users whose reading taste matches yours, plus your local stores. Engage regularly, and your feed becomes your personal book discovery engine.
